How to download your child's records from SFUSD ParentVUE

Updated

ParentVUE is SFUSD's parent portal, and most of what the district sends home about your child is already in it: report cards, Star assessment reports, state test score reports and letters, sitting in one list as PDFs. You can download them by hand in a minute or two, or let Toward June's downloader list them all for you in one pass. Both paths are described below.

What is in ParentVUE

Once you are signed in, the sidebar names a child at the top and a list of sections under it. The records families usually want live in two places:

  • Documents. Every PDF the district has issued for the selected child: trimester report cards going back years, the District Assessments (Star) reports, readiness and screening reports, and school assignment letters.
  • State Tests. From grade 3, the CAASPP score report is here as a downloadable PDF, sometimes in more than one language.

Attendance, the gradebook and the calendar are also in ParentVUE, but as pages you look at rather than files you download.

Downloading the documents

In ParentVUE, pick your child at the top of the sidebar, then open Documents. Each row is a document; clicking it downloads the PDF. Do that for each document you want to keep, then repeat with your other children selected. The list is per child, so a family with two children has two lists.

If that is forty clicks across two children, the Toward June downloader does the walking: you sign in once on that page and it lists the last three years of documents for every child, ready to download individually or all at once. What it does with your login is spelled out at the bottom of this page. Read that first, then choose.

The files arrive with names like Report Card.pdf that say nothing about whose they are. That is fine: each document prints the child's student ID on it, which is how Toward June files them.

Bringing them into Toward June

On the report cards page, the Import from ParentVUE box takes the whole pile at once. Drop everything you downloaded, in any order. Each file is read and matched to a child by the student ID printed on it:

  • Report cards open for your review, filled in from the document. Nothing is confirmed until you check it.
  • Star reports are filed on the child's progress page, matched to the school year printed on the report.
  • Everything else, letters and reports we cannot read yet, is named and set aside, so a mixed pile never silently loses a file.

A file whose student ID belongs to no child in your household is refused rather than guessed at; add the district student ID on the child's profile and it will match.

The downloader, and your login

Everything above works without telling anyone your login, and ParentVUE's own agreement asks you not to share it. That is a real reason to prefer the manual steps, and they will keep working.

If you use the downloader instead, here is exactly what happens. Your username and password travel over TLS to our server, which signs in to the district portal for you, reads the document lists, and seals the session into an encrypted token that lives only in your browser tab for about 25 minutes. Each document you click then streams through the server's memory to yours. The password is never written to a database, a log, or a file; the files are never kept; nothing about the attempt is recorded. Closing the tab ends everything.

The same is true in the other direction: the documents you import are your child's education records, stored inside your household and readable only by the adults you have invited into it.
